If you install any of the following 3DEXPERIENCE platform apps on a machine that already has SOLIDWORKS Desktop installed:

• SOLIDWORKS Add-in

• Design with SOLIDWORKS

You will no longer be able to enable the SOLIDWORKS option:

System Options > FeatureManager > “Allow component files to be renamed from FeatureManager tree”

🔧 Why does this happen?

This is by design. Once these 3DEXPERIENCE apps are installed, the system removes access to this option to ensure full compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE data model. Renaming component file names is not supported in the 3DEXPERIENCE environment.

Note: Disabling the 3DEXPERIENCE add-in in SOLIDWORKS will not restore this option.

What you can still rename:

You can rename a Component Title (not the file name) by:

1. Opening the component in a separate window (outside the parent assembly)

2. Using Rename Title
