In this post, we will be looking into importing our 3D data into our drawing for us to do drafting.
- For this example, we will use the engine assembly above.
- Opening the Drafting feature. Go to Start -> Mechanical Design -> Drafting
- After selecting “Drafting” , specify the paper format and click OK
- To make things easier to select, go to Windows -> Tile Vertically. This will make the two windows (Assembly and Drafting) to be arranged side by side (As shown in picture above).
- Click on the front view icon
- Go to the assembly, and select the view to be put as front view. In this case, I choose the surface as picture above as front view (Right Picture). The result in drafting should be the whole assembly in draft mode (Left Picture).
- Moving forward, what if we want only selected sub-assembly to be shown in the drafting? We can do this by the method shown in the later steps.
- Refer to picture above, to select only specific sub-assembly, click the assembly from the specification tree (In this example I selected Exhaust System).
- Then click on other surfaces in the assembly for the view selection. If it was done right, we should have the front view to be created with only one sub-assembly.
- The selected sub-assembly/part is not limited to just one selection, you can also select more than one selection to be put in the drafting by holding “CTRL” button and clicking the assembly that you want to put in the drawing. This concludes this post on selecting assembly in CATIA.
