Positioning a concentric Hole in CATIA using the Hole function without using the “positioning sketch”.
- The hole features in CATIA is extremely useful to make all types of holes (Simple, Tapered, Counterbored, Countersunk, Counterdrilled). To position the hole, we can use the function “Positioned Sketch” to determine the hole position. This method can be used if the hole position is not concentric with the circle.
- If the hole is concentric with the surface of the cylinder, we can make the hole to be concentric automatically by clicking at the edge of the cylinder “1” and then clicking the face of the cylinder “2”.
- Picture above is the a result of using manual positioning (Hole on the left) and automated hole positioning (Hole at the center). The hole dimensions, types can be edited normally by selecting the relevant hole definition in the menu.
- The automated hole positioning is extremely helpful to position a hole at a concentric position in a cylindrical profile as it can save a lot of time compared to positioning the hole using “Sketch Positioning”
