Here we would like to share the method on how to create the parameters extranally and import it to CATIA V5.
- Example that we had a Angle Bracket shape part like shown. And we would like to control those dimension such as both the Wall and Base Width, the Thickness and the Angle.
2. Example we already created an External file for the parameters, in this case using Excel. We already created the necessary parameters with the values and ensure that they are using the correct units. You may also create the table using Notepad or text file.
3. Within the Knowledge toolbar select the Formula icon.
4. In the Formula Window, select the Import button as shown.
5. Select the designated external file, in this case the excel file for the parameters. Click Open.
6. Within CATIA V5, it will pop up a message like shown to notify the type of parameters being import with the values.
7. In the Formula Window, you may choose the Filter Type to User parameters. You may observe the new user parameters that had been imported as shown in the window.
8. You also would observe the user parameters appear in the Specification tree as shown.
9. Change back the Filter Type to All. Select the Sketch.1 from the Spec tree. It will highlight all the intrinsic parameters of the existing geometry. Respectively, it will also shown the related dimension at the 3d geometry area as well.
10. Example, select the angle dimension in the 3D geometry, it will highlight the intrinsic parameters in the Formula Window as well.
Click Add Formula.
11. From the Spec tree Parameters, select the Angle. This will ensure that it will relate the value to the User Parameters Angle. Click OK.
12. Now you may see that the Intrinsic Parameters for the angle will be having Formula “=Angle”. In the geometry area also you can see the symbol f(x) at the angle dimension, showing that it is being control by a formula.
13. Repeat the same step to link the other parameters respectively as shown. Click OK once all the parameters had been properly linked.
14. Now you may have the 3d geometry, with certain key dimension being control via the user parameters.
