When producing drawings of multibody parts, it might be necessary to specify each solid body individually. In SOLIDWORKS, there are several methods available to isolate these solid bodies within a drawing, each suited for different purposes. The most used method is “Select Bodies” in drawing views, but the alternative options can also be quite useful.
In this situation, the objective is to detail an assembly that was initially designed as a multibody part/cut list. While one approach could involve saving each body as a separate part file, this would be cumbersome and could introduce challenges in managing files.
The “Select Bodies” function can be found within the drawing view properties. To access it, first insert a view onto a drawing from the view palette. Then, navigate to the properties of the view and select “Select Bodies”.
This action involves opening the part file to choose the specific body or bodies for the desired view. The drawing view adjusts to show only the selected bodies while maintaining the original view orientation. Any newly created projected views will include only these selected bodies. If multiple bodies are chosen, they will remain fixed in their relative positions. It’s important to note that existing projected views do not automatically update to include newly added bodies from the parent view; adjustments to the selected bodies in projected views must be made manually.
