Bill of Materials (BOMs) can be automatically generated in SOLIDWORKS once you finished your assembly.
It can be embedded in your assembly or drawing files, or can be exported as an excel file on its own.
- Open your assembly.
- From the CommandManager, go to Assembly tab > Bill of Materials.
- Choose standard template and adjust the settings if necessary.
- Select annotation view accordingly.
- Place the BOM in your assembly.
- To create an Excel file, right-click on the upper left corner of the BOM table, and click Save As…
- Change the Save as type to Excel (.xls) or Excel 2007 (.xlxs).
- Check on Thumbnails and click Save.
- An Excel file will be generated accordingly, complete with the Thumbnails for each component.
