Follow these steps to create and assign Global Variables in SOLIDWORKS:
- Create a new SOLIDWORKS part.
- Go to Tools>Equations.
- Under Global Variables, enter the variable name.
- Under Value/Equation, enter the value after the “=” symbol and hit Enter. The Evaluates to column will be automatically filled.
- Add Comments if necessary, then click OK.
- To demonstrate how to assign values using Global Variable, sketch a rectangle on any plane.
- Using Smart Dimension, add a dimension to the horizontal line, and type the “=” symbol. Go to Global Variables and select A from the list.
- Click OK.
- Done. Your dimension is now properly tied to the Global Variable value.
- If you need to modify the value, simply go to Equations>Tools again, and modify the value accordingly.
