If you’ve recently upgraded SOLIDWORKS and started seeing file location errors, this could be due to the software referencing the wrong file locations, typically from an older installation.
Steps to Resolve Missing File Locations in SOLIDWORKS
- Accessing File Locations:
To correct these issues, navigate to
Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations.
This is where you can manage and update the file paths that SOLIDWORKS uses. - Modifying File Locations:
While you can add or remove file locations one at a time using the “Add” and “Delete” buttons, this can be slow.
Instead, use the “Edit All” option, which opens a dialog box listing all file directories at once. This allows you to easily update any or all paths. For example, if your 2016 installation is pointing to outdated file paths, you can manually enter the correct paths in the new path column. - Bulk Updating File Paths: If you need to update multiple file paths at once, use the Find/Replace feature. Enter the old directory in the “Find What” field and the new directory in the “Replace With” field. Clicking “Replace All” will automatically update all matching directories. Repeat this process as needed, and click “Close” when finished.
