There are few steps can be taken to resolve this issue:
Verify the file location
- Go to ‘System Options’ > ‘File Locations’
- In the ‘Show folders for’ list, click on ‘Symbol Library File’.
The typical folder path is: ‘C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS [20XX]\lang\english’
(If the path is pointing to the previous version of the software, update the path to point to the current version).
Or you can delete the current location and hit the OK button. You will get a message like this.
Then select Restore default installation folder.
The correct location will be automatically added.
Replace the file gtol.sym
- Open that folder and make sure that the ‘gtol.sym’ exists.
- If you suspect that the file is corrupt, replace the file with a working ‘gtol.sym’ file.
Rename registry key
If the problem is affecting multiple users, rename the following registry key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Solidworks\SOLIDWORKS 20xx\ExtReferences] “Symbol Library Folders”.
This will reset the values for all users.
