Background
In this case study, we encountered a challenging issue with SolidWorks Visualize Professional, where users faced extended loading times and ultimately failed license activation. This problem persisted despite multiple attempts to resolve it through various methods.
Issue Description
The primary issue was that SolidWorks Visualize Professional would not activate properly. The user reported that the activation process took an unusually long time and ultimately failed.
To address this, we initially attempted to activate the license manually using a key provided via email.
However, this approach led to an error message as shown below:
“Manual activation failed to due to the following error: Manual Activation failed due to the following error: Computer ID mismatch – expected “JD82XXXXXXXXX” but found “DH5CXXXXXXXXXX*
Solution
We investigated possible causes for the Computer ID mismatch. One of the common issues related to licensing errors is whether the application is running with appropriate permissions.
It was discovered that SolidWorks Visualize Professional needed to be run with administrative privileges to successfully activate the license. This is because certain system-level interactions required for license validation were not accessible without administrative rights.
To resolve the issue, we followed these steps:
- Run as Administrator:
- Right-clicked on the SolidWorks Visualize Professional shortcut.
- Selected “Run as administrator” from the context menu.
- Attempted the license activation process again.
- Verification:
- Upon running the application as an administrator, the license activated successfully without any further issues.
- The application launched as expected, confirming that the problem was resolved.
