The Predefined View feature in SOLIDWORKS allows you to set up and configure specific standard views (such as front, top, right, etc.) before actually creating a drawing. This feature is useful for templates or when you want to ensure consistency across multiple drawing sheets.
Predefined views save time, especially when working with large assemblies or multiple sheets, because you won’t need to manually position or adjust standard views each time. It also ensures that the views are consistent across different drawing sheets and projects.
How to Use Predefined Views in SOLIDWORKS for Easier Drawing Creation :
- Activate the Predefined View Tool
In your drawing document, click on the Predefined View icon from the Drawing toolbar, or go to Insert > Drawing View > Predefined. - Place Your View
Click anywhere in the graphics area to place the predefined view, such as the front view. - Set Up the View
In the PropertyManager, adjust options like orientation, position, and scale. For example, choose “Front View” as your initial setup. - Add Projection Views
After placing the front view, click on it and choose the projection view symbol from the context toolbar or command manager. You can then project additional views like top, right, and isometric to create a standard 4-view setup. - Insert Your Model
Right-click on the predefined view and select Insert Model, or use the option in the drawing view PropertyManager. - Select a Model
In the Insert Model PropertyManager, pick a model from the open documents list or browse for one from your files. - Populate Views Automatically
Once you insert the model, all related views (such as the projected ones) will automatically be populated when you click OK. - Save as a Template
You can save this drawing with predefined views as a template, making future drawing creation much faster. - Next time, just click File > Make Drawing from Part.
- choose your predefined template.
- SOLIDWORKS will automatically generate the drawing views.
