When user try to change the DWG file, an error message prompt out and show “Could not perform transition on the file “’B:\…\….’ The file format is not recognized.” and the DWG cannot be changed state.
In this case, user’s machine is using SolidWorks PDM and Autodesk CAD software only. Make sure user’s machine has installed AutoCAD, Inventor, DWG TrueView and the version must be compatible with the SolidWorks PDM version. For SolidWorks PDM 2023, the Inventor, AutoCAD should be in version 2023.
If user unable to change the AutoCAD DWG state, may check on the machine if there are multiple versions of AutoCAD installed?
If yes, make sure use the AutoCAD 2023 as the default DWG read software. To check the default software to read the DWG, can double click the DWG to check. If the DWG is opened in the older version of AutoCAD, change the default software to the newer version of AutoCAD. Below is the step to change the default open software.
- Right click on the DWG, select “Open with” > Choose another app.
- Scroll down and select “Look for another app on this PC”
- Go to the newer AutoCAD location: <install dir>\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx
- Select the acad.exe as the default open app.
- Now the issue should be solved and the DWG can be changed state.
