There is a rare occurrence that SOLIDWORKS prompt a same error, at consistent action when you do designing. This error usually came in form of a setting of configuration that you apply earlier to SOLIDWORKS ( not a template setting), as specially in System Option. This old setting seem to be always triggered, even though new setting have been apply.
This may lead to directory issue, graphic presentation glitch or other consistent message that will prompt out.
A quick fix by most user is to reset everything back to square one, as shown below.
In normal condition, this will solve the problem, but sometime, it does not.
Often the next or last resort will be uninstall and fresh re installation in order fix the problem. But knowing the how SOLIDWORKS keep the setting may help you to avoid this time consuming action,
The Windows Registry stores much of the information and settings for software programs, hardware devices, user preferences, and operating system configurations.
For example, when a new program is installed,in this case, a SOLIDWORKS program, a new set of instructions and file references is added to the registry in a specific location for the program, and others that may interact with it, to refer to for more information like where the files are located, which options to use in the program, and what is the user setting been applied.
In many ways, the registry can be thought of as a kind of “DNA information” for the Windows operating system.
By knowing this information, we can manipulate the data inside Windows Registry to our advantage to fix SOLIDWORKS.
!!! Please note that attempting this procedure may cause harm to Windows Operating system. Follow the instruction correctly and have your IT personnel approval first.Failing to comply may lead to Windows corruption or unable to boot. !!!
Step 1: Press Win + R and type in “regedit”
Step 2: Expand the directory to “Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks”
Step 3 : Right-Click and Rename the folder to “SolidWorks_Old”
By renaming the folder to “SolidWorks_Old”, the next time SOLIDWORKS launch, Windows will recreate a new fresh default registry information, to replace the missing/rename folder.
Whatever corrupted information in the old, “Solidworks_Old” will not be loaded, as the new registry directory is the new created “SolidWorks” registry folder.
It is possible just to delete the folder, but renaming to other name, the old setting can be revert back by changing back the name to “SolidWorks”, just in case.
With this simple method, you will get your SOLIDWORKS running back in no time, without the hassle of the full SOLIDWORKS re installation.
