If the custom parts or assemblies in SOLIDWORKS mistakenly display with Toolbox icons, this usually happens when SOLIDWORKS identifies them as Toolbox components due to their file location or internal metadata.
Why It Happens
A part or assembly may appear as a Toolbox item if:
-
It’s stored inside the Toolbox directory (e.g.,
C:\SOLIDWORKS Data\Browser\...) -
The internal property
IsToolboxPartis set to Yes -
The file was copied from a Toolbox part and retains its metadata
Even if the model is fully custom, these conditions can cause it to be read as a Toolbox file.
Step-by-Step Solution
Use the SOLIDWORKS Set Document Property Utility
This method changes the part property back to a standard SOLIDWORKS component.
-
Close all SOLIDWORKS sessions.
-
Navigate to:
-
Run sldsetdocprop.exe (or ToolboxSettings.exe in some versions).
-
Browse for the file or folder, then select the folder containing the affected files.
-
Click Update Status to scan for Toolbox parts.
-
Select all affected files.
-
Choose: Set Document Property → Property State : No
-
Click Update Status to confirm.
Once completed, all selected parts will revert to standard SOLIDWORKS icons.
